Material Culture Fiber Arts is owned by Tria Belcourt, and is located in beautiful, historic Claremont, California. We provide luxurious yarns and fibers that are hand dyed in small-batches in our home studio. Tria has been a fiber artist for over 20 years, and started Material Culture in 2015. Our yarns and hand dyed fibers have been carefully curated from a variety of United States distributors. We choose our bases for level of softness, construction, wearability, and preparation of yarn and fiber.
The name for the company comes from Tria's second passion, archaeology. Tria has been an archaeologist for the past 15 years of her life, in varying capacities and roles. In archaeology, we say you can tell a lot about a person by the items they surround themselves with - which in archaeological theory is called "Material Culture". Tria's home is FULL of lots of toys (two small kids), a huge mess (lots of fun), and cozy couches with pillows thrown everywhere (lots of love). And then there are her bits of wool, tools, project bags and equipment... found in every room except the bathrooms! I'm sure many of you can relate…
